TEHRAN - Iran is currently producing 20 percent enriched uranium, Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Director Ali-Akbar Salehi said on Wednesday.
However, in a letter to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iran asked the agency to identify which countries have the capability to provide nuclear fuel for the Tehran research reactor, Salehi told reporters. He went on to say that Iran will agree to the nuclear fuel swap deal if guarantees are provided that the fuel exchange is done simultaneously and on Iranian territory.
Iran has said it is ready to exchange most of its stockpile of low-enriched uranium for 20 percent enriched fuel rods to operate the Tehran research reactor.
However, Tehran has stated that since it does not trust the West, it wants the exchange to take place simultaneously on Iranian territory under the supervision of the IAEA
